As I write this review, a dear friend is a patient at MD Anderson, a relative is actively battling breast cancer, and several members of our church are dealing with cancer. You could also make such a statement, or perhaps you personally are fighting, or have fought, cancer. ![]() ![]() Cancer is timeless, cruel, scrappy, ruthlessly persistent, pervasive, and clever. The surgeon not only called cancer an emperor, but also the “king of all terrors.” These descriptions are not hyperbole as Mukherjee explains in 470 pages. As you can tell from the title, Mukherjee considers cancer the most vexing of all diseases and he derived at least a portion of his title from an inscription written in a book by a 19th century surgeon. This Pulitzer-prize winner in non-fiction was first published in 2010. I just finished reading “The Emperor of All Maladies: Biography of Cancer” by Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD. ![]()
